QTC treatments

QTC is approved by the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI), our treatment centre supplies the best facilities to treat your cargo or items.  You can be assured that while your cargo is being treated with us that it is being handled professionally and efficiently.

All chemicals used in the fumigation process by QTC are non-residual fumigants.  The treatment of your items may include one or a combination of the following:

Methyl bromide

For produce and wooden products.

Targets live insect, snails, slugs,   nematodes,
mites, spiders and trogaderma.

Methyl bromide is a gas that can be used on a variety of items and can be undertaken at atmospheric pressure or under vacuum conditions.

In addition we offer methyl bromide fumigations services anywhere in the Auckland region.  These services are however subject to strict regulations. Call us to find out if your site can meet these regulations.

Vapormate

For produce.

Targets insects.

Vapormate is an effective alternative to methyl bromide and ideal for use on time sensitive produce as it is fast acting (1 – 24 hours) and has short withholding periods.

Formalin

For animal products.

Targets any bio security threat   without damage
to the item itself.

Formalin is a gas treatment used for both imported and exported animal products (e.g. skin drums and maori cultural items) and can be undertaken at atmospheric pressure or under vacuum conditions.

Eco2fume (Phosphine)

For a wide range of products – including plant products.

Targets insects.

Eco2fume is a gas treatment using a mix of phosphine and carbon dioxide and is used on a variety of products without producing any by products.

Heat Treatment

For a wide range of items including grains, seeds, straw products and wood products.

Targets fungi, mould, insects,   bacteria
and microscopic organisms and prevents seeds from germinating.

Heat treatment is a process where heat is used to eliminate various quarantine hazards that are found on imported/exported goods in New Zealand.  We use some of the most highly advanced technology and systems to ensure that the product suffers minimal damage to achieve the required result for quarantine.

Heat treatment does not consume or contain any chemicals, as such products are safe for human consumption immediately after the treatment has been completed.  QTC Ltd is approved to provide heat treatments to products that have been quarantined by the MPI.

Products that can be heat treated include but are not limited to straw hats, mats, and placemats, seeds and grains for human consumption e.g. mung beans, chick peas, black eyed beans, and lentils,   and wooden products such as masks and spears.

Note that heat treatment is not suitable for wooden products that are glued or packaged in plastic as the glue and plastics may melt.

Freezing

For organic products such as coffee, rice, nuts and grains.

Targets insects.

The treatment involves lowering the temperature of the product to a set point allocated by the MPI. Once this set point is reached the goods are then held there for no less than seven days.

Freezing does not interfere with the integrity of organic products.

Freezing is used to treat fishing and boating gear that may have been exposed to Didymo.

Dipping/ dusting/ spraying

For plant products such as nursery   stock and flowers.

Targets insects, snails, slugs, fungi, spiders, mites and devitalisation of plants.

We have facilities to treat imported and exported plants or plant products by dipping, dusting, spraying using insecticide, fungicide, nemitacide or devitalizing agents.

For produce - mainly bananas and pineapples.

Targets surface insects.

This is a surface fumigant that can be used on products that suffer from adverse effects from other treatment options.

Cleaning

For outdoor furniture, equipment and   machinery.

Targets insects,
snails, slugs, fungi and spiders.

Cleaning is the process used to remove soil, leaves, grass and any other organic material from items to ensure that no organic matter is introduced to New Zealand.

Cleaning by washing and/or vacuuming is extensively used on imported farming, gardening, and household equipment.
